Energy Assembly

The Eco Warriors led the Assembly this Monday to talk about global warming and climate change. We talked about how our Earth is changing due to global warming and what we can do to help. We also requested everyone in school to save energy as much as we could to help protect our environment. To show our support, we are taking part in Switch Off Fortnight campaign. We hope that everyone will join us in our effort to look after our environment.

The Market Stall

The Eco Warriors enjoyed harvesting, setting and running the market stall last Friday. We had lots of chilli peppers and herbs to sell at the stall. The chillies, that are a favourite in our community, sold out really fast.

Community Clean Up - November 2016

This was the first Community Clean Up for this academic session at
Hornbill School. We had a good number of adult and children turn up for
this community event. The children were quite surprised with the amount
of trash and recyclables that were collected from around their flats.

Learning the importance of recycling

Year 1 have been learning all about how to look after the world as part of the theme ‘Teddy’s Travels. The Recycled Garden was a fantastic place to have Year 1’s Landing Pad as the children and parents were able to see just how much recycling could be done in their own homes. Everybody was very impressed with the imaginative way that the Eco Council had used ‘rubbish’ to help grow plants and make their garden beautiful. We certainly learned a lot about how to look after our world.

Recycling discarded wood

Recycled wood used to make this shelf. It is great not just for storing your
gardening equipments but for displaying your produce as well.

This recycled garden area is finally beginning to look really recycled. Everything has been made out of recycled materials.

Upcycled Desktop Organiser

In Year 6 children are learning about the importance of recycling and upcycling. They have used junk to make a desktop organiser that they can use when they go to boarding school. We are not limiting our recycling efforts to our garden but extending it to other areas of the curricullum as well. This is part of our DT work.

The Recycled Garden

The plants seems to be liking our recycled containers. A few weeks and they are growing quite well.
